The library welcome students groups and other college organizations to use the Academic Commons in Mudd to raise awareness of issues, promote events, and publicize programs.  It's easy to reserve space!  Just complete the appropriate form and we'll get back to you.

Book Talk by Pablo Mitchell - Tuesday the 30th

Pablo Mitchell, Eric and Jane Nord Professor of History and Comparative American Studies, will talk about his book West of Sex: Making Mexican America, 1900-1930 on Tuesday, April 30 at 4:30 p.m. in the Moffett Auditorium (Mudd 050).

Books are coming unglued!

Unglue.it is an organization that runs pledge campaigns to provide Open Access to books, while rewarding their authors for their work. Authors and publishers work together to determine what amount of money lets them freely share their books with the world while still making a living. When campaigns succeed, authors and publishers get paid, and they issue a free electronic edition under a Creative Commons license. In support of this experiment with Open Access, the Oberlin College Library recently pledged a donation toward ungluing Feeding the City: Work and Food Culture of the Mumbai Dabbawalas, by Sarah Roncaglia. So far, Unglue.it has successfully "unglued" four books. Hopefully, we will see many more to come!

Launched today: The Digital Public Library of America

Today at noon, the ambitious Digital Public Library of America became available.  As described in the FAQ, "The Digital Public Library of America (DPLA) brings together the riches of America’s libraries, archives, and museums, and makes them freely available to the world. It strives to contain the full breadth of human expression, from the written word, to works of art and culture, to records of America’s heritage, to the efforts and data of science. The DPLA aims to expand this crucial realm of openly available materials, and make those riches more easily discovered and more widely usable and used."

Spotlight on the Collection: Food in the Library!

Food studies – the who/what/why/when/where of food production, preparation, and consumption – has an increasingly large scholarly and cultural profile.

From the history of food, to the study of sustainable agriculture techniques, food seems to be everywhere in the air – and it’s everywhere in the Library as well!

Check out the display and many fabulous books on the main level of Mudd, outside Azariah's.
