Do you collect books?

The Student Book Collection Competition is open to current Oberlin College students. This competition is meant to recognize the efforts of students who collect books, as well as inspire others to start collecting. The top three entries will be awarded cash prizes (top prize is $300!) and will be invited to display their collections in the Mudd Main Academic Commons near the end of the semester. Collections are evaluated for their cohesiveness and unity, as well as originality and creativity. 

Submissions are due by noon on Wednesday, April 27th.

Manga! Spotlight on the Collections

The new Spotlight on the Collections display in Mudd features Japanese comic books in translation. With titles such as Pretty Guardian, Sailor Moon, Assassination Classroom, and Fullmetal Alchemist, this display brings attention to the surprising and delightful collection of Manga at Oberlin College Library. Internationally renowned philosopher Kwame Anthony Appiah will deliver the 2016 Harold Jantz Memorial Lecture.  His lecture "Of our Spiritual Strivings: W.E.B. DuBois as a German Philosopher" draws from his recent book Lines of Descent:  W.E.B. DuBois and the Emergence of Identity.  See the entry in Oberlin Calendar of Events for more info. 

Library Student Assistant Isabela Espinal OC'16 put together this welcoming book display in Mudd to highlight works by Appiah and scholarship on African-Amercans in Germany, as well as Afro-German experiences.
