Exhibit and talk by Emerita Prof. Linda Grimm Monday, March 2

On Monday March 2 at 12p Emerita Professor Linda Grimm will give a talk "Princehorn's Sioux Photographs: an unknown collection from the early 20th century” about Oberlin's first official photographer, Arthur L. Princehorn, who served from 1917 to 1931.  Her talk coincides with the  opening of her exhibit: "Princehorn: Oberlin's Pioneer Photographer.  An Emblematic Record of the Sioux at Glen Island” which will be on display in the Academic Commons from March 2-22.

The talk, sponsored by the Oberlin College Archives, will be in Azariah’s Café in Mudd Center.

Book talk by Renee Romano, Tuesday at 4:30p

Join the Friends of the Library for “Racial Reckoning: Prosecuting America’s Civil Rights Murders,” a talk by Renee C. Romano, Professor of History, on Tuesday, February 24, at 4:30 p.m. in Moffett Auditorium, Mudd Center.

Blind Date with a Book!

blind, adj.  /blaɪnd/  date, n.  /deɪt/

1. A social engagement between two persons [or a person and a book!] who have not previously met, usually arranged by a mutual acquaintance [such as the library!]

2. Either of the persons participating in such a social engagement.

Library staff are trying their hands as matchmakers – stop by the display in the Mudd Academic Commons and take a chance on book that you can't judge by its cover:  

• No peeking… select a book that intrigues you
• Check it out at the Circulation Desk – find out what you’ve picked afterwards
• If things don't work out, just return the book (no hard feelings, unlike with some real blind dates!)
• The good ones are definitely not all taken!

Cool Book Series

Stop by the Spotlight on the Collections display to peruse a few of Mudd's favorite book series.   And yes, the plural form of series is series.  Some highlights are the Very Short Introduction series (e.g. Utopianism, Fashion, Nelson Mandela) and Edible -- explore the history and culture of sandwiches, figs, ice cream, lobster, even oranges -- juicy!

Main Library carrel sign-up starts Saturday, Feb. 7

Sometimes you want to party in Mudd....sometimes you want to study. If it's studying that's on your mind, consider signing up for a study carrel, starting Saturday, February 7.

Just bring your OCID to the circulation desk in the Main Library and get yourself settled.

All the carrels are numbered, so please scope out the ones you like in advance and make a note of the numbers. If someone got to your favorite first, you may have to accept a alternate. See details here.
