The End of an Era

After nearly two and a half centuries the Encyclopaedia Britannica will no longer be printed.

We've had online access for years, of course, but it was still comforting to know that someone out there had the hard copy ...

Exhibit: "Claiming Citizenship: African Americans and New Deal Photography"

Historian Rickie Solinger has curated an exhibition of photographs that document how African Americans claimed significant new freedoms during the Great Depression of the 1930s, through opportunities opened up by New Deal programs.

Ms. Solinger will deliver a talk related to the exhibition on Tuesday April 3, at 4:30pm in Moffett Auditorium, Mudd 050.

New resource: FBIS Reports - Foreign news in translation 1941-1996

FBIS Reports (1941-1996) opens new possibilities for researchers seeking foreign primary sources in English. The library recently initiated online access to the 1941-1974 segment of the FBIS Reports (Foreign Broadcast Information Service) which complements the 1974-1996 segment that we have had for years. Originally selected by the CIA for monitoring national security, documents in FBIS include transcripts and English translations of foreign news services, radio and television broadcasts, speeches and interviews.
