1940s Census Records Released
Today the National Archives and Records Administration releases the individual records from the 1940 Census. Taken after the Great Depression and before the U.S. entered World War II, this data provides a snapshot of America at a momentous time in our history.
In anticipation of the release, the Census Bureau prepared a special Profile America: Facts for Features edition that compares figures from 1940 with the 2010 Census.
