Erik Inglis Speaks on Medieval Portraits

On Friday, October 9 at 4:30pm Erik Inglis, Associate Professor of Art History, will give a talk "Medieval Portraits: An Oxymoron" in the Moffett Auditorium (Mudd 050).

The talk is based on his new book, Faces of Power and Piety (Getty Publications, 2008), an examination of medieval portraiture. The book demonstrates the way in which medieval artists emphasized qualities such as power and piety, rather than physical characteristics, in order to convey how their subjects wished to be remembered by posterity. Inglis is the recipient of a 2009 Teaching Excellence Award from the College of Arts and Sciences.
